Tuesday Technique Class

On the first Tuesday of the month, we hold technique class at Loose Ends.  A specific technique and/or project is featured in the two hour class.  This is a drop in class, no pre-registration is needed.... just show up, ready to learn!

6-8 Pm, first Tuesday of the month, $5 ! What a bargain!

July 5th we will be learning entrelac basics...

Entrelac is pretty, isn't it? Looks like basketweave....and is easy once you know the basics.
The student  will learn the entrelac technique, and make a sample or the start of a scarf.

Bring some worsted weight yarn, short, straight needles in size 7, 8, or 9....if you choose to start a scarf, you will need about 200 yards of yarn..

See you Tuesday evening, ~Live at Loose Ends~

Knit Nite

Thursday is knit nite at Loose Ends.. A time to relax, have some fun, share ideas, oh, and knit, of course!
Knitters and crocheters start arriving in the late afternoon and stay until 8 pm... come and go as you please.  Supper is available at many of the restaurants within easy walking distance, Mexican, Chinese, Italian... Two Thursdays a month, the American Legion Post ( next door) has bingo and many of our knitters pick up hot sandwiches and great homemade desserts there.
Often at knit nite there are treats...wine and goodies...birthdays are celebrated and news exchanged....
At 7 pm a door prize drawing occurs...
All these things happen regularly, but the thing that you can count on,, the things that are Always Present....Camaraderie!  Sharing! Laughing!

Projects and silliness

Here is Amy modeling a shrug made by Jane K.
A shrug over a summer top is a little silly, but hey,,, you get the idea.:)

This fun shrug is super easy and can be worn upside down and inside out...Again with the silliness.....
Here is Bonnie with her afghan in progress, those colors evoke a feeling of fun, cheer and silliness, don't they?  A good mood is almost certain if you are snuggled under this blanket..
Have fun today, knit and be happy!

Design Mavens.............

Did you know that we 'knit to order' here at Loose Ends?
If you have an idea about what you want, come in and we will design it for you!
For example, This shawl was knit to order by Betty recently.
The customer had specific ideas about a shawl she wanted to keep her shoulders warm at an air conditioned convention. She knew she wanted hints of copper,,,and Betty took it from there.

The finished shawl was knit in feather and fan from Berroco's Glint, and Ironstone's Glimmer... and some choice yarns from Betty's stash..

We can turn a few ideas into a one-of-a-kind garment, stop by.

made from what?

Renew, reuse, recycle....we try to live as 'green' as possible...
Here is our latest effort in recycling.
Knitting needles as jewelry!

I'm no longer knitting with long, straight aluminum needles, (too hard on my wrists) so I have sliced them into pieces, polished the bits and made jewelry from them................I am feeling virtuous and having some fun simultaneously. So far, I have made a few bracelets, and a pair of earrings.
Bracelets are for sale at Loose Ends -$20
Necklaces and earring to come soon...

TNNA Report

Betty and I returned from our big road trip (10 hours)(each way) on Monday evening, tired but really enthused about all the things we saw at TNNA.  T-N-N-A stands for The National Needlearts Association... Each year the organization holds two major trade shows, this was the summer show, which features yarns and trends for fall and winter...

So what are the new trends??? Color, texture... Lots of cables, textured yarns, and sparkle....yes, the novelties are making a comeback!  Garments made with simple shapes.  Socks are ever popular, and shawls and wraps are still strong.

On a personal note, Betty and I took full advantage of the "perks of visiting the big city"...we ate in some fancy restaurants, hob-nobbed with big shots and fully enjoyed the big, cushy beds at the Hyatt. We ordered lots of new yarn, some very cool bags and accessories. All to be delivered in the coming months..
Traveling is nice, but coming home is even better... We are now back at home with lots of new ideas for the next knitting season!
